In 1989, Kevin co-owned and managed the Blue Note Cafe (BNC) in Murcia, Spain with his long-time friend Mike McKoy (guitar, vocals and trumpet) where they formed the in-house band playing most evenings in the style of the classic Miles Davis small combos of the 1950s.

The BNC was a stylish cafe-theatre attracting many top Spanish artists as well as visits by touring American jazz musicians including
- trumpeter Wallace Roney
- guitarist Sean Levitt who died 2002 in Spain relatively unknown compared to the genius of his guitar playing
- American actor/singer/musician/broadcaster, Al Matthews who worked at the club for a while and who appeared in Coast to Coast, one of Kev’s all time feel-good road movies.
The BNC had one of the best sound and light rigs for a small venue outside of Madrid and Barcelona and it was a crying shame that due to a certain lack of business basics, the club only lasted just on two years – happy days!
